Indian badminton players Malvika Bansold and Ashmita Chaliha advance to women’s singles main draw

Kuala Lumpur: Indian badminton players Malvika Bansold and Ashmita Chaliha advanced to the main draw of the women’s singles at the Malaysia Masters 2023 after winning their qualifying match at the Axiata Arena on Tuesday.

Malvika, ranked 40th in the women’s badminton singles, defeated Lin Xiangti of Chinese Taipei 21-12, 21-19 in 43 minutes in the BWF Super 500 qualifying match.

The Indian badminton player had a slow start to the block and turned it around to take a 1-0 lead after trailing 6-3 in the first set. In the second game, Malvika took a 9-2 lead by 7 points by virtue of his own momentum. However, Lim Siang Ti completed a stunning comeback at half-time and was only two points behind.

The 21-year-old Bansold stepped up her defense after the break and despite a strong response from Chinese Taipei, she maintained a two-point lead to advance to the next round.

Malvika will face China’s world No. 8 Wang Zhiyi in the round of 32 on Wednesday.

World No. 50 Ashmitar, on the other hand, bounced back from a disastrous first-game defeat to overcome world No. 47 Zhang Wenyu of Canada 10-21, 21-19, 21-17 in 45 minutes. She will face world No. 9 Han Yue of China in the round of 32.

In men’s singles, former junior world No. 1 Sankar Mutusami Subramanian and Miton Manjunath were knocked out after straight sets in qualifying.

World No. 82 Sankar lost 10-21, 14-21 to Chinese Taipei’s 48th-ranked Chi Woo-jen in 36 minutes, while world No. 44 Miton lost 13-21, 19-13. Lost to Li Jiahao, who is ranked 47th in the world. 21 in 35 minutes.

Meanwhile, two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu will face Denmark’s Line Christophersen in the round of 32 on Wednesday, while India’s top-ranked men’s singles player HS Prannoy and world championships medalists Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen will also be in action. .
