New Delhi: A man has died after an iron rod fell from the window of a moving train and pierced his neck in a bizarre incident.
The incident happened at 8.45am on Friday between Danwar and Somna railway stations in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh. The train is going from Delhi to Kanpur. Indian Railways said GRP and RPF are looking into the matter.
Passengers on the train said a stick fell from the window of the carriage and hit a young man in the neck in the window seat.
According to railway officials, when Nilanchal Express was passing through Davar and Somna railway stations in Prayagraj district on Friday morning, an iron rod flew from outside towards the head coach and hit a traveler, Harikesh Kumar Dubey, who died instantly.
Officials said an investigation is underway to determine how the iron rod broke through the window.
The incident came as a shock to the passengers seated in the main compartment of the Niranchar Express.
Following the accident, the train stopped at Aligarh station at around 9.23 am and the body of the deceased was handed over to Aligarh GRP and an investigation was ordered.
