Mancherial: An MBA graduate who dabbled in organic farming three years ago is now a successful farmer in the area. Even during his time with Wipro Technologies Limited, Adepu Srikanth excelled in farming and set an example for other youngsters.
Srikanth, an inspired and innovative young farmer from Shivvaram village in the Jaipur mandal, works as a quality analyst for the Bengaluru-based multinational company. As the pandemic sparked the concept of working from home, he started growing rice, different vegetables, beans, watermelon, guava, mango and sapodilla on his two acres of land. He is also now overseeing mango cultivation on a 12-acre farm in the Rapalli village of Hajipur Mandar.
“The loss of original taste of food cooked with rice, vegetables, pulses and the profound influence of my parents inspired me to enter organic farming in 2020. I learned about the intricacies of this field by following the courses of natural farming advocate Subhash Palekar. I can spend time working from home because I work from home,” Srikanth told meTelangana today.
The 27-year-old said he mastered mango cultivation and ripening through experts, scientists, experienced farmers and reading research articles published by the National Institute of Plant Health Management in Hyderabad. His ambition is to spread his Mokshaam Farmz, a similar institute, and educate students and farmers through field trips.
Srikanth is raising awareness about organic farming among farmers by actively running an Instagram account called Mookshaam Farmz, a Facebook account and a YouTube channel. He is known for home deliveries and parcels of organic produce and mangoes to customers in different parts of Telangana. He said mango growers are consulting him to increase yields and produce organic fruit using environmentally friendly methods.
The technician-turned-farmer government whip Balka Suman, members of the voluntary organization Grama Bharati, the Hajipur Farmers Producers Organization (FPO) and the Lions Clubs International-Mancherial unit all presented him with awards for his outstanding performance in the field of agriculture.
