Akash Kumar takes team silver in the recently concluded 16th Asian Schools Chess Championship, held in Kalutara

Hyderabad: Telangana Social Welfare Residential Education Institutions Association (TSWREIS) student Irondla Akash Kumar was overjoyed for his achievements on an international platform after winning the team silver medal in the recently concluded 16th Asian Schools Chess Championship in Kalutara, Sri Lanka mad.
Akash said the medal was special as it was his first international competition. “It’s a very special moment in my life because it’s my first international competition and I’m very excited and happy to represent the national team to win the silver medal. That doubles my happiness,” said the 16-year-old said of his medal wins. Akash also finished seventh in the Under-17 Open Classic.
The son of a private teacher in Repallewada village, Tandur mandal, Mancherial district, he started playing chess with his father for fun. He was later encouraged by his coach Shiva Kumar at TSWR School Chess Academy Kasipet, Shaikpet and now he is proving his mettle at national and domestic levels.
“My father taught me to play chess from an early age. After joining the association (TSWREIS), I honed my game under the quality guidance provided by the academy. I am grateful to Mr. Secretary (Ronald Rose) and my coach for developing me into an international player. players,” said the 10th Standard student.

Talking about his future goals, he revealed, “My goal is to achieve the Grand Master (GM) title. Currently I have 1,300 Fide rating points. Over the next year, I hope to reach A 1,700-point classic.”
“Akash was the first student to compete and win an international medal from our academy. I am delighted with his achievement. He has performed well in state and national championships. Akash is always eager to learn and improve himself. His Success will also motivate other students,” said TSWR School Chess Academy Coach Shiva Kumar.
