Indian boxers Akash Sangwan and Nishant Dev ease past quarter-finals

Tashkent: Indian boxers Akash Sangwan (67kg) and Nishant Dev (71kg) advanced to the pre-quarterfinal stage with a comfortable victory at the 2023 IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships here on Saturday.
Sang Wan defeated Chinese player Fu Mingke 5-0 in the round of 32. The Indian boxer was faster than Fu from the start, delivering some serious blows to his opponent. The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) said in a press release on Saturday that Akash dodged Fu’s punches from a distance during the match.
In the final round, the Chinese boxer tried desperately to comeback, but Akash made it easy, winning 5-0 by unanimous decision. He faces Kazakhstan’s Dulat Bekbauov in the round of 16 on Tuesday.
In a Light Welterweight Round of 32 bout, Nishant Dev faces South Korea’s Lee Sangmin. The Indian boxer, who defeated world bronze medalist Sakan Aliyev of Azerbaijan in the previous round, showed off his technical versatility on Saturday as he played a patient game in the first round and finished in the Punch enough punches to achieve victory while gauging your opponent’s strategy to start.
In the final two rounds, both boxers delivered heavy blows, but Nishant Dev was the more accurate of the two and gave India a unanimous 5-0 victory. The left-hander will face Palestine’s Foqahaa Nidal ahead of Tuesday’s quarter-final.
On Sunday, four Indians – Deepak (51kg), Mohammad Husamuddin (57kg), Sumit (75kg) and
Narende (over 92kg) will play.
Deepak will face Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist and 2021 world champion Sakken Biboshinov in the round of 32, while Husamuddin will take on Russia’s Savin Edward before the quarter-finals Down.
Sumit will start his campaign against Russia’s Pavel Sosulin in the round of 32, while Narender will play Cuba’s Arzola Lopez in the closing stages of the round of 16.
The ongoing tournament saw the participation of 538 boxers from 107 countries, including several Olympic medalists.
