Hyderabad: In today’s #MeToo world, where (sexual) harassment of women has become increasingly important, the film #MenToo seeks to establish the fact that men are vulnerable to harassment too.
The story begins at “Stags Only”, a bar run by Brahmaji, where three friends Aditya (Naresh Agastya), Sanju (Kaushik Ghantasala) and Munna (Mourya Siddavaram) meet regularly and find solace in each other’s company by sharing their life stories.
Aditya, the only man on a female-dominated sales force, Sanju, a super rich but confused NRI whose relationship with a female stand-up comedian, and Munna, a mechanic who thinks women are liars, all have their own. A series of problems. At the bar, they met Rahul (Harsha Chemudu), a software employee who lost his job after being accused of sexual harassment by a colleague.
Despite his limited screen time, Rahul’s story becomes a major part of the film, as it is he who makes decisions that affect the lives of the three friends and other characters in the film. Well, questions like what the decision was, whether the allegations against Rahul are true, whether the friends are willing to go the extra mile for the men’s championship will all be answered in the second half of the film.
The movie’s premise about men also being victims and targets of so-called pseudo-feminists is good, but it’s tediously handled and underwhelming. All three main actors do a great job, Moriah in particular brings some humor to the story. Harsha’s performance is the highlight of the film. Veteran actor Brahmaji is somehow wasted in the role of the bar owner, who has a backstory of his own with a molested husband.
Neither the music nor the script elevates the story much. Director Srikanth Reddy handles the plot well, but it feels as though he lets the story run its course without much control. At times, the story feels flat because the characters and situations aren’t well drawn.
One plus is that it’s less than 2 hours long. So if you’ve watched all the other movies and have nothing else to do and don’t want to take any chances, you can watch streaming movies on aha.
