San Francisco: Meta announced the global launch of Instagram broadcast channels, along with a new “collaborators” feature that allows creators to invite other creators (or fans) to participate in their broadcast channels.
“Whether it’s an expert interview or a casual gathering, fans can now follow conversations between their favorite creators and special guests. Now available globally,” the company said in a statement.
The company is also testing other features, including the ability for creators to collect fan feedback and responses using question prompts, and a dedicated channel tab in the inbox so users can easily access channels they’ve joined and discover new ones.
These features are currently in early beta and not yet available in India.
“Finally, we’re exploring new controls to help creators manage and promote their broadcast channels, such as setting expiration dates and times on their channels, adding an admin to help manage members, messages and content, and sharing links Even preview stories to encourage followers to join in,” it added.
To help creators deepen their connection with fans, the company first launched a radio channel on Instagram in February.
A broadcast channel is a public one-to-many messaging tool that allows creators to engage directly with their fans at scale.
Creators can use voice notes, text, video and photos to share their latest updates and behind-the-scenes footage, and even create polls to crowdsource fan feedback.
However, only creators can send messages in broadcast channels, while followers can react to content and vote in polls.
