New Delhi: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ Olympic Podium Targets Program (TOPS) has approved Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia’s proposal to travel to Kyrgyzstan and Hungary for training in preparation for the upcoming Asian Games trials in Hangzhou.
Until a few days ago, the pair, along with Olympian Sakshi Malik, led the wrestlers’ protest against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. , and submitted their proposal to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) The TOPS team cleared the issue within 24 hours of the request.
Olympic bronze medalist Bajirang Purnia will head to Kyrgyzstan for a 36-day training camp at Issyk-Kul Lake, and world championships medalist Vinesh Fugat will first head to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan for a week-long training camp , before heading to Tata, Hungary for an 18-day training session, the ministry briefed on the training in a press release on Thursday.
Vinesh will be accompanied by physiotherapist Ashwini Jeevan Patil, sparring partner Sangeeta Phogat and coach Sudesh, while Bajrang will be accompanied by coach Sujeet Maan, physiotherapist Anuj Gupta, sparring partner Jitender and strength and conditioning specialist Kaazi Hasan.
The government will fund airfare, board and lodging costs, camp costs, airport transfers, OPA and other miscellaneous costs for Vinesh, Bajrang, their sparring partners Sangeeta Phogat and Jitender, and coaches Sudesh and Sujeet Maan. Additionally, the costs of other support staff accompanying the wrestlers will be borne by Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ). Both Vinesh and Bajrang will leave in the first week of July.
