In the tweet, Sundar criticized the prevalence of corruption in the “Modi” surname, suggesting that the word “Modi” be redefined as “corruption”.
“Har #Modi ke aage #bhrashtachaar surname laga hua hai..toh baat ko no samjho.. #Modi mutlab #bhrashtachaar.. let’s change the meaning of #Modi to corruption..better fit..#Nirav #Lalit #Namo = Corruption..(sic),” said the Congressional Speaker at the time.

Her statement was similar to that of Rahul Gandhi in 2019, for which he was sentenced to two years in prison. When Rahul Gandhi was campaigning in Karnataka for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he said, “I have a question. Why do all the thieves have Modi in their names, whether it’s Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi or Narendra Modi? We don’t know how many more Modi there will be.”
Now, with Rahul Gandhi disqualified for similar remarks, some Congress social media accounts have shared the tweet and questioned Gujarat Minister Purnesh Modi, who had lodged a complaint against Rahul Gandhi. Modi will also file a lawsuit against her. However, Sundar’s tweet has not been deleted so far, and the BJP leader has not made any comment on it.

Rahul Gandhi will not be able to stand in elections for eight years after being disqualified in a defamation case – two of which were jailed and six under the 1951 People’s Representation Act.
