Monsoon arrives in Adilabad, farmers start farming activities
Adilabad was hit by brief rains on Friday, with motorists using umbrellas for shelter.

Adilabad: The monsoon has finally arrived, and the farming community, which has been waiting for two weeks, rejoices. Parts of the Adilabad district saw drizzle on Thursday and brief rains on Friday, spurring farmers to start farming activities.

Farmers expect the monsoon to arrive in the first week of June. They are very concerned about the unusually delayed monsoon. Residents of certain villages perform certain rituals to appease the rain god and pray for rain. To their excitement, however, the two days were followed by drizzle and brief showers.

According to the rainfall readings on the website of the Telangana Development Planning Association, the average rainfall in the Mancherial area was 23.2 mm.

Chennur mandal had the highest rainfall with 54.3mm followed by Kasipet mandal with 49.2mm. The rainfall in Bhimaram, Kotapalli, Jaipur and Mandamarri mandal ranges from 33 mm to 43 mm.

Meanwhile, the average rainfall in Nirmal was 19.7mm. The Kuntala mandal received the highest rainfall at 46.5 mm, while Kaddampeddur and Dasturabad mandal received 44 mm each. The average rainfall in the Kumram Bheem Asifabad area was 13.4 mm, while the average rainfall in the Adilabad area was 10.3 mm.

There will be light to moderate rain in the four districts.

Bommisetti Sunanda, a female farmer from Ramandar, Kuta, said she started sowing rice seeds in her fields with the arrival of the monsoon. The drizzle eased the heat, she said.
