Bhopal: A girl and her boyfriend were allegedly killed by her family in what could be an “honour killing,” with the couple’s bodies thrown into the Chambal River in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district, police said. .
The victim was allegedly killed by the girl’s family about two weeks ago. Her family and other relatives allegedly kidnapped the couple, shot them and threw their bodies into the alligator-infested river.
The incident came to light after the girl’s father, Rajpal Singh Tomar, confessed to the crime during interrogation. According to the police, Tomar claimed that he and other family members killed his daughter Shivani Tomar and her boyfriend Radshyam Tomar on the 3rd before throwing their bodies in the river.
Shivani Tomar, 18, is reportedly in a relationship with 21-year-old Radheshyam Tomar. However, this was opposed by the girl’s family because the two have the same surname. Despite strong opposition to their relationship, the young couple continued to see each other, much to the chagrin of the family.
Shivani’s family and some relatives allegedly shot and killed the young couple on June 3, according to police. After Shivani’s father confessed to the crime, local police swung into action to search for the body.
Morena SP Shailendra Singh Chouhan said on Sunday that teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and divers were searching for the bodies in the river but so far unsuccessfully.
“We haven’t found anything yet. The search is ongoing,” Chouhan said.
“Unless a body is found, nothing can be said. Our investigation is still ongoing,” he added.
