Hyderabad: Reigning world champion Nehat Zarin continued her furious form to reach the semi-finals of the sixth Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship in Bhopal on Saturday.
Nikhat, who faced Goa’s Taniksha Chawar in the 50kg quarterfinals, barely broke a sweat and was in the lead from the start.
The Telangana-born boxer’s quick movements and powerful punches helped her overcome her opponent, taking the victory after the referee stopped the fight near the end of the second round. Nikhat will now face Shvinder Kaur Sidhu of the All India Police (AIP) in her semi-final.
Tokyo 2020 Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain and 2019 World Championship silver medalist Manju Rani also put on spectacular performances to secure their places in the final tournament.
Lovlina represented Assam in the 75kg category quarter-final against Meena Rani of the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB).
The 2022 Asian champion relied on his excellent technical ability to handle the whole process with ease and gave almost no chance to his opponent.
In the end, Lovlina won by unanimous decision 5-0, securing her place in the semi-finals where she will face Madhya Pradesh’s Jigyasa Rajput.
RSPB’s Manju Rani defeated Chandigarh’s Simran in the 48kg category quarterfinals. Full of confidence, Manzhu played his best offensive state and defeated his opponent 5:0 by unanimous decision. She will face Anjali Sharma from Madhya Pradesh in the semi-finals.
