Mumbai: The latest version of “Adipurush,” starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, has gotten a lot of flack on social media for its visual effects, script, design and direction, but one thing netizens have criticized particularly relentlessly is its dialogue.
Dialogue specific to the Lanka Burning scene where Lord Hanuman is heard saying “jalegi bhi tere baap ki” to Meghnad.
A day after posting, Twitterati erupted with criticism and relentless attacks on the conversations, dubbed “tapori” and “chapri,” which do not fit the nature or status people associate with Valmiki’s legendary epic, the Ramayana.
“In the scene of Lanka burning, Ravana’s son lights up Hanuman ji Tail: Jali na.. Abhi to aur jalegi. Jiski jalti hai wahi janta hai,” wrote one user. “Hanuman ji: Kapda tere baap ka. Tell your father. Aag bhi tere baap ki. Toh jalegi bhi tere baap ki. Dialogue writing is horrible! ,
“Didn’t expect this chappari language,” said another user.
Netizens said the dialogue “Jalegi tere baap ki” in “Adipurush” was apparently copied from the show “Kumar Vishwas” and posted the same clip.
“Bajrangbali’s dialogue in the Adipurush movie is bullshit!!” one user seemed annoyed.
“#Adipurush is an insult to Ramayan as we know it,” wrote one outraged netizen. “#why make Hanuman trash talk like this?” asked another user.
“VFX, looks kuch bhi theek nahi.. koi emotional hi nahi. Upar se ‘jalegi bhi tere baap ki..’ type of dialogue. So sad,” wrote one netizen.
Another expressed disappointment with his portrayal, writing: “This is the level of Hanuman we deserve??”
Another tweet said: “Raavan from Game of Thrones, Ram from Jerusalem, Dialogues from Dharavia.”
Others cite examples of various portrayals of him in the Ramanand Sagar series and the 1990s Japanese anime film The Legend of Ramayana, as well as Hanuman animated films and the Disney+ Hotstar series, portraying him as both powerful and intelligent.
