New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has enabled FASTag-based payments at forest entry points to facilitate a seamless and efficient process for vehicles entering forested areas.
Indian Highway Management Limited (IHMCL), an NHAI incorporated company engaged in electronic toll collection, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve across the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Officials said the plan aims to provide a FASTag-based payment system at forest entry points and will expand the benefits of ecosystem management coordination fees collected through FASTag at various entry points in tiger reserves.
The FASTag system uses “radio frequency identification” technology to automatically pay tolls at tollbooths and is mandatory across the country on all vehicles with 4 wheels and larger.
“By enabling FASTag-based payments at forest entry points, visitors can avoid long lines and delays, allowing them to enjoy the natural beauty and wildlife of these areas without difficulty,” a statement said.
This partnership between IHMCL and the Department of Forestry is an important step towards promoting sustainable tourism and conserving natural resources by curbing vehicle emissions at forest entry points.
