Hyderabad: Nizamabad has a history of producing high-profile athletes such as Nikhat Zareen, Mohammad Hussamuddin and Soumya Guguloth who have emerged on the international platform.
Joining the list from the Nizamabad district is softball player Likitha Dayyala, who was crowned “World’s Best Softball Player” at the recently concluded World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC-2022) U-12 World Cup in Taiwan.
The young man was also named to the world softball team consisting of 16 players from different countries. The 11-year-old catcher hit a cloud nine after an impressive performance in the World Cup.
“I am very happy to represent my country in my first global tournament and to be named the best player in the world. This is my first international game and it makes me even happier,” said Liquiza enthused.
“I saw my seniors playing this game and was fascinated by it. Then I started training with my coach, Ms. Mounika. At first, it was difficult for me to cope with this game. But my coach taught me step by step , always keeps me motivated to improve my skills. Playing with international players has helped me learn new things,” said the sixth standard girl who is being educated at the Telangana Social Welfare Boarding School in Sudapali.
“I want to compete in more domestic and international competitions and I want to bring more honor to my country and country. I will do my best to make my parents and coaches proud,” added Likitha. Her parents, Murali and Lavanaya, farmers in Jaithapur, Yedapalle, are proud of their daughter’s achievements.
“Our daughter made us proud. I don’t know what softball is all about, but I’m so happy that she made it to the World Cup when she was young. I thank everyone who encouraged my daughter to make it happen. I hope she wins in the future More medals,” Mulally said, bewildered.
