Nizamabad: To raise students’ awareness on stress management and suicide prevention, a seminar was held at the Government Medical College in Nzamabad on Friday.
Explaining the importance of stress management, Dr Vishal Akula, a member of the National Board of the Indian Psychiatric Society who was the guest of honor, advised students to find a form of exercise they enjoy and practice yoga to calm their minds and stay active. Among other things, students are advised to engage in deep breathing exercises and reduce screen time that can damage their mental and emotional well-being.
Finding a support system and always talking to someone they can trust can reduce stress for students when they are feeling more stressed, he said, adding that sessions at the workshop include lessons on self-care, maintaining student-life balance , gratitude, self-management, stress and anger management.
Dr Indira, president of the Faculty of Medicine, said a state-of-the-art gymnasium will be installed on campus, which will help students relieve stress and provide many health benefits. The college will also set up a sports club, the principal said.
Dr. Shiva Prasad, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, was present.
