Hyderabad: For Telugu-speaking students, the allure of higher education at US universities continues to soar given the rising number of visas issued.
In 2022, the US Consulate in Hyderabad issued more than 18,600 student visas, a 23% increase from 2021. Amid a global pandemic, nearly 1,25,000 student visas were issued in 2022, which is a record,” said a spokesperson for the US consulate.
At present, due to the surge in applications, the US government has given priority to student visas so that students can get them in time.
It has started recruiting and training additional vice-consuls and visa adjudicators at different consulates and consular sections in New Delhi for assignment to India to process visas.
“We are sending staff to India. We are currently on track to reach the highest level of consular staffing we have ever seen in India in the second half of 2023,” the spokesperson said.
Regarding the delay in processing 221(g), the spokesperson said certain applications may require further administrative processing.
“When administrative processing is required, the consular officer will notify the applicant at the conclusion of the interview. The duration of processing will vary on a case-by-case basis. Students whose cases require further processing should not book a new appointment until this processing is complete , as doing so may cause further delays,” the spokesman added.
