Central agency officials are trying to identify those responsible for the mass tragedy

Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday questioned two officials at Bahanaga railway station in Odisha’s Balasore district over the three-train tragedy that killed 288 people and injured more than 1,000.
According to reports, CBI officers arrested the Bahanaga Bazar station chief and signal officer at an undisclosed location in Balasore and interrogated them.
Central agency officials are working to identify those responsible for the massive tragedy. They may have some information from two of the station’s officials, the sources said.
The CBI team has been investigating the case since last Tuesday. CBI officials inspected the accident site, track, signal room, control room, etc.
It also seized equipment and records at Bahanaga Bazar railway station for investigation. So, no trains stop at the station now.
On the other hand, the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inspected the scene of the accident on Monday, going to the control room, signal room and signal point at Bahanaga Bazar railway station.
Meanwhile, AIIMS Bhubaneswar officials have decided to preserve the unidentified 81 bodies until the identification process is yet to be completed.
At least 207 of the 288 remains have been identified and returned to their families, while the remaining 81 unclaimed and unidentified remains have been preserved in containers through scientific procedures.
Claimant is awaiting DNA test report. After a DNA comparison, the remains will be handed over to bona fide family members, officials said.
