The country reorganized many new states after independence, but it did not see such a high death toll as Telangana

The unique Telangana Martyrs Memorial, inaugurated on June 22, is the culmination of the sacrifices made by thousands of Telanganas in their quest to free themselves from domination by others. This struggle took place even before Indian independence. Thousands of people gave their lives in the armed struggle to liberate Telangana from its feudal past and has earned its place in world history.
Even after independence, Telangana was stuck in a state of dependent freedom and struggled for 58 years and had to sacrifice hundreds of lives to gain full political freedom within the Republic of India. This happened on June 2, 2014, a great date in the history of Telangana.
early restlessness
In 1952, there was an uproar against “non-Mulkis”. Seven people were killed in police shooting. In united Andhra Pradesh in 1969, 376 people were killed in police shooting amid agitation for Telangana independence. Some 1,200 people reportedly committed suicide in the final state struggle for statehood. This is the most heartbreaking part of the whole loss of life.
The country’s post-independence reorganization of many new states has not seen such a high death toll. The exception was the Maharashtra-Gujarat region, where 170 people were killed in police shootings. Unlike other state reorganizations, Hyderabad was merged with Andhra Pradesh in the name of one language in 1956 against the wishes of the people of Andhra Pradesh and the recommendations of the State Reorganization Commission.
All other reorganized countries are easily incorporated. But in the case of Andhra Pradesh, that did not happen. There was a big wave in 1969 and 1972, with several original agreements and duplicate agreements, only enforced in breach rather than enforced. The center, which oversees state integration and implementation of the agreement, has always supported Andhra Pradesh for political reasons.
indifference center
The Center has never considered Telangana’s demands for a breakup for nearly six years despite the almost constant discord and exploitation of Telangana’s resources by the majority in Andhra Pradesh. Land from Hyderabad city, revenue from Telangana and other resources are being used for environmental improvement without compensation by Andhra Pradesh, leaving local people in dire straits. This caused despair among the people of Telangana.
Telangana needs to mobilize the entire population to take part in agitation like Maha Garjana, Million March and Sakalajanula Samme to force the parliament to implement the decision to declare statehood. These fragile circumstances have made the minds of Telangana people (mainly young people) so fragile that they have chosen to commit suicide. This mostly happened between 2009 and 2014, when the center hesitated in its decision.
Here, such a large number of suicides is a peculiar phenomenon. This happened because of almost six decades of indifference by the central government and four and a half years of insensitive indecision by the Congress government at the behest of politicians in Andhra Pradesh. In the face of “samaikyanadhra” agitation, the UPA government has all but dropped the Telangana claim as Congress pinned its hopes on AP to outnumber Telangana in the counting of 2014 elections.
But God’s will is not like this. During this period, Congress lost almost all of the 36-38 by-elections in these two districts to the then TRS (BRS) and YSRCP, and both districts had blank accounts in 2014. In this situation, Sonia Gandhi made the decision to open up Telangana to save political support at least in Telangana.
The Center’s long history of denial, four and a half years of relentless bids for time and the unbearable majority of Andhra chauvinism in it has dispirited the youth of Telangana and resorted to this incongruous suicide.
heal wounds
Generations have borne the brunt of the trauma of heroic struggle and sacrifice. The most troubling pain comes from the suicides of hundreds of teenagers. It has created constant anxiety in the minds of the people of New Telangana. Even though the nation was created after it and went well, their own unusual demise in such unfortunate fashion engenders a sense of guilt and remorse for not being able to stop it. It needs to have a monument to assuage this intense sadness. The creation of this unique monument to the martyrs “Amara Deepam” was a huge effort and one very well done.
The Telangana Martyrs Memorial is the largest seamless stainless steel structure in the world, which is resistant to rust and corrosion. This is a huge egg-shaped mirror building. The main structure occupies 85,000 square feet, while the total floor area of the memorial complex is 2,85,000 square feet. The building also has a ‘diya’ designed by renowned Telangana artist M Ramana Reddy.
The flame is made of low carbon structural steel and has a golden yellow color when exposed to warm external light. The six-story building houses the museum, an 80-seat audio-visual hall with a 170-inch LED screen on the first floor, a 650-seat conference center cum museum and a photo gallery on the second floor, a restaurant on the top floor, and a There is open patio seating. The 161-meter-high building sits on a 3.29-acre site.
“The shape of the oil lamp and the golden flame at the top symbolize respect and tribute to the martyrs who fought for Telangana over the decades. This will also help future generations to take note of the sacrifices they made,” said Ramana Reddy . The building is in many ways similar to “The Bean” at Chicago’s Millennium Park (officially known as “Cloud Gate”), “The Bubble” in the western Chinese city of Karamay, and Dubai’s Museum of the Future.
It is a source of pride that such a unique building was designed by a Telangana artist-architect and built by a local builder under the direction of a national engineer.
