Hyderabad: Osmania University is developing plans to use advanced technology to ensure the safety of female students living in campus dormitories.
As a result, the university administration is considering installing motion sensors around female dormitories that would detect any movement in addition to sounding an alarm in the event of someone breaking into the dormitory.
First, the varsity team intends to install such motion detection sensors and sirens in the Centennial Women’s Dorm located inside the campus. They may also propose similar security measures at the women’s hotel located near Adikmet Road.
Alarms went off in the hotel’s security room and command-and-control center if someone moved repeatedly or someone tried to climb the compound’s walls, according to a senior official. The sensors to be installed will have wide coverage.
“The university, which puts the safety and security of its students first, especially women who live in campus dormitories, is planning to install motion sensors to alert them of any intrusion in the dormitory. A company has stepped forward to expand the service,” said the said the senior official.
In 2019, an unidentified person climbed over the backyard wall at night to enter the women’s dormitory on campus, and pried open the glass to enter the bathroom. In addition to stealing her phone, he allegedly pointed a student at a knife. The intruders fled into the darkness as students screamed for help.
Currently, the school administration has hired military veterans to serve as security guards for the dormitories, campus colleges and administration buildings.
