Hyderabad: Amid the ongoing controversy over the yet-to-be-released film ‘Pathaan’ starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, actor and Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Nusrat Jahan has come out in support of its song ‘Besharam Rang’ , which sparked a debate.
The song was heavily criticized by the BJP because it showed Deepika Padukone wearing an “orange outfit”.
“They have a problem with everything. They have a problem with women in hijab. They have a problem with women in bikinis. They are the ones who tell new-age women in India what to wear,” Jahan reportedly said.
“They’re trying to dictate our lives by telling us what to wear, what to eat, how we should talk, how we should walk, what we should study in school, what TV we should watch… – called the new, evolved India. Terrible . I worry that in the long run, I don’t know where all of us are going,” she added.
“Besharam Rang” went live on December 12 and quickly became a trending topic. While several people liked the song, some BJP leaders, including Madhya Pradesh home minister Narottam Mishra, claimed it showed a “polluted mentality” and even threatened to block its release in the state.
