Paris: Prime Minister Modi, who arrived in Paris on Thursday, will join French President Emmanuel Macron as the guest of honor at Bastille Day celebrations in Paris.
This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Macron tweeted: “India and France are celebrating 25 years of a strategic partnership of trust and friendship that will only grow stronger with time. Dear @NarendraModi, welcome to Paris The tri-service contingent will take part in the Bastille Day parade, while three Indian Air Force Rafale fighter jets as part of the military contingent will also take part in the Bastille Day air show over the Champs-Elysées in Paris. The highlight of the day’s festivities is the Bastille Day Parade, which marks the anniversary of the fall of the Bastille prison, an old fortress royal during the French Revolution in 1789.
This year’s Bastille Day parade will feature around 6,300 soldiers of various parades. This includes tri-service contingents of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. The Indian Army is represented by the Punjab Regiment. Units of the regiment fought in two world wars, earning 18 combat and theater honors in World War I.
In September 1915, during the First World War, the Punjab Regiment took part in the French offensive near Neuve Chapelle. The regiment also received 16 combat honors and 14 theater honors in World War II.
Earlier, the Indian Ministry of Defense stated in a press release, “The Indian Army Task Force consists of 77 marching personnel and 38 band members, led by Captain Aman Jagtap. Led by Vrat Baghel, IAF contingent led by Squadron Commander Sindhu Reddy. IAF Rafale fighter jets will also be part of the parade air display,” it added : “The Army contingent is represented by the Punjab Regiment, one of the oldest regiments of the Indian Army. The regiment’s troops participated in two world wars as well as post-independence operations.” Prime Minister Modi’s visit is expected to Heralds the next phase of the India-France strategic partnership, setting new and ambitious goals for our strategic, cultural, scientific, academic and economic cooperation, including extensive industry collaboration.
