Kumram Bim Asifabad: A police officer suffered serious head injuries when his firearm reportedly caught fire at Kutara police station while he was being treated at a hospital in Karim Nagar on Tuesday. He is on duty at the police station.
Koutala Inspector Budde Swamy said Constable Sura Rajini Kumar, 29, was from the 13th Battalion of the Telangana Special Police. Rajini Kumar is from Batwanpalli in Mancherial.
Rajini Kumar was seriously wounded when the bullet passed through his jaw, and the self-loading rifle exploded in the morning. Other police officers at the police station rushed out after hearing the gunshots and found him lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to a private hospital in Kaghaznagar and then to Karimnagar.
Rajini Kumar, who was selected as a constable in 2021, is reportedly frustrated by his family’s financial crisis. However, so far, police have not clarified whether it was a fire or suicide.
Earlier, Superintendent K Suresh Kumar went to the hospital in Kaghaznagar to investigate after learning of the incident.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Whether it was an accidental gun fire or police trying to end his life, they focused on the angle.
