New Delhi: Soon, the government will help millions track lost or stolen mobile phones as a new portal – www.sancharsaathi.gov.in – will be unveiled on May 17, which also marks World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.
This new portal will help people track and find lost phones.
The Sanchar Saathi portal will be officially inaugurated on May 17 by Telecommunications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The portal will be available nationwide and provide services for lost or stolen mobile phones connected to all telecommunications circles.
As of now, the portal is only available to Delhi and Mumbai circles.
To date, 4,70,000 lost or stolen mobile phones have been blocked with the help of the portal. Furthermore, official sources say that more than 240,000 mobile phones were tracked through the portal. Some 8,000 mobile phones were also recovered through the portal.
With the help of this portal, users can also access their SIM card number and block if someone is found using the SIM card with the owner’s ID.
