Gwalior: Congress party secretary-general Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Friday that there is a huge wave of change in the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh state, which is due to hold parliamentary elections at the end of the year.
She was speaking at a rally in Gwalior, the hometown of Union Minister and former Congress leader Jyoti Radya Sindia, and she also paid tribute to great freedom fighter Rani Laxmibai.
She took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who called senior opposition leaders who command respect “thieves”. Political dignity has taken a hit, she said.
She said Manipur was burning, the prime minister’s statement came 77 days after a video of grave violence against women was released.
This is Priyanka Gandhi’s second visit to MPs in 40 days.
Priyanka Gandhi kicked off the party’s campaign in Madhya Pradesh on June 12 by speaking at a rally in Jabalpur. She told the rally that if the Congress party is elected to power in the state, five schemes will be implemented, including financial aid of Rs 1,500 per month for women, free electricity for up to 100 units and revival of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).
She accused the government under Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of deep corruption and failure to provide jobs, and mocked Scindia, the BJP leader and union minister turned MP.
After the 2018 state polls, the Congress Party formed the government among MPs.
However, provincial MPs loyal to Sindia quit the Congress party and joined the BJP in March 2020, leading to the collapse of Kamal Nath’s government within 15 months and paving the way for Chauhan to return to power.
The Scindia dynasty once ruled the former Gwalior princely state.
