Gwalior: Congress secretary-general Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will address a public meeting on Friday in Gwalior, the hometown of federal minister and former Congress leader Jyoti Radhia Sindia, a party official said.
This will be Priyanka Gandhi’s second visit to the state, which is due to hold parliamentary elections at the end of the year in 40 days.
“Priyankaji will arrive in Gwalior at 11 am and then visit the Rani Laxmibai monument where she will pay tribute to the great freedom fighter,” KK Mishra, chairman of the MP’s media department, told PTI on Thursday.
Priyanka Gandhi will address a public meeting in Mela Maiden at around 11.30 am, he said.
Speaking at a rally in Jabalpur on June 12 to kick-start the party’s campaign in the state, she said five schemes would be implemented if Congress voted in the state, including financial aid of Rs 1,500 per month for women, free electricity up to 100 units and revival of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).
She accused Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s government of deep corruption and failure to provide jobs, and mocked Sindia, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Union Minister turned MP.
Madhya Pradesh lawmakers loyal to Sindia quit the Congress party and later joined the BJP in March 2020, leading to the collapse of the Kamal Nas-led government within 15 months and paving the way for Chauhan to return to power.
The Scindia dynasty once ruled the former Gwalior princely state.
