Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has reiterated that the Village Revenue Assistant (VRA) system is a remnant of the feudal era and the practice of low-wage contract work is coming to an end with the formalization of VRA services.
In keeping with the Chief Minister’s pledge on Sunday, the state government on Monday issued a Government Order (GO) to absorb the VRAs in various sectors and to absorb them at normal wage rates.
In recognition of VRA’s long-term efforts, the Chief Minister formally handed over a copy of the GO to VRA’s Joint Action Committee (JAC) leaders at the State Secretariat in Dr. BR Ambedkar Telangana on Monday. The services of 16,758 VRAs were absorbed into the respective departments under the highest grade Service/Records Assistant/Junior Assistant or equivalent job categories based on their academic qualifications.
Chandrashekhar Rao said 10,317 persons with Class 10 qualifications will be employed in the Irrigation Department and Mission Bhagiratha Department, 2,761 persons with Intermediate Education will be employed as Record Assistants and 3,680 persons with Degree or higher will be designated as Junior Assistants. Finance has approved these positions.
According to GO, the salary range for top grade service is 19,000-58,850; Records Assistant 22,240-67,300; Junior Assistant 24,280-72,850. In a compassionate gesture, 3,797 people over the age of 61 will be offered employment opportunities for their children, given their dedication to society.
The Chief Minister urged the VRAs to build a good reputation in their respective departments and strive for further studies and promotions. He said that the sooner the JAC provides the list of VRAs, the faster the appointment order can be issued to them.
He said officials issued the orders on Monday to commemorate the minister’s birthday, considering Minister KT Rama Rao’s active participation in expediting the normalization process of VRAs.
