New Delhi: Retired IAS official Arun Goel took over as India’s new Election Commissioner on Monday.
Nearly six months after the third post of electoral commissioner was vacant, pollsters will now go full steam ahead.
The polling team has been composed of just two people after Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra retired in May this year and was put in charge by Rajiv Kumar.
Goel, a retired IAS officer from Punjab Cadre in 1985, was appointed to the post by President Droupadi Murmu on November 19
“The President is pleased to appoint Arun Goel, IAS (retired) (PB: 1985) as Commissioner of Elections to the Election Commission with effect from the day he takes office,” read the official communication issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on Monday.
Goel will join Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey.
