Hyderabad: State Assembly Chairman A Revanth Reddy has asked the state government to declare a cotton Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 15,000 per quintal and initiate measures to implement a crop insurance scheme.

To this end, the TPCC chairman wrote an open letter to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Saturday.

Despite all the efforts and good harvests, farmers earn only Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 per quintal. He requested that the state government should declare an MSP of at least Rs 15,000 per quintal taking into account input costs and other factors.

He said farmers were reeling from the crisis and many committed suicide due to a lack of proper agricultural policies, support during natural disasters and crop losses from pests.

State governments should implement loan forgiveness and crop insurance programs as promised to farmers. He said permanent solutions should be devised rather than temporary measures.

Meanwhile, former Home Affairs Minister K Jana Reddy urged the state government to release the arrested Youth Parliament leaders, who are staging protests demanding changes to police recruitment rules.

He said the state government should hold talks with unemployed youth to address objections or consider their suggestions in police recruitment rules.

He wants the state government to take a humane approach to the issues raised by unemployed youths over police recruitment rules.
