Traffic police attribute it to tough enforcement against violators and increased road safety awareness
UPDATE – 11:48 PM, WEDNESDAY – DECEMBER 28 22

Hyderabad: In 2022, road accidents in the three districts of Hyderabad, Ratchakonda and Cyberabad will drop by about 4%.
A total of 8,701 accidents were reported in 2021, while 8,407 accidents were recorded this year. Last year, some 1,717 people were killed in road accidents, with that figure dropping to 1,695 by 2022.
The traffic police attributed the decrease in road accidents to strict enforcement against offenders and increased awareness of road safety.
“Teams from our engineering department went to the scene of the accident and, in coordination with the local police and other government agencies, suggested and oversaw rectification of roadworks, inadequate lighting and other related issues. This practice played an important role in reducing accidents,” Cyber abad Traffic DCP T Vijaya Kumar said.
On all three boards there are dedicated officers responsible for ensuring road safety who work in coordination with other government agencies and local traffic police to activate road safety measures.
The Department of Road Safety works under the supervision of senior officials at the ACP or DCP level whose main job is to ensure the safety of road users, including pedestrians.
In order to control the incidence of traffic accidents, the police pay special attention to the two parameters of drunk driving and reckless driving.
Regular drink-driving checks are conducted on Rachakonda’s main roads and change locations frequently to surprise drivers.
“The focus is on the locations where a large number of drink-driving related accidents are recorded. Whenever someone is arrested, we immediately file a case and present it in court,” said Rachakonda Traffic DCP D Srinivas.
In addition to policing drunk driving and reckless driving, traffic police conduct various awareness-raising campaigns, especially among students.
“In traffic training institutes, road safety awareness courses are held for offenders and students. Regular rallies and street rallies are held. These initiatives gradually instil traffic discipline in the community, so traffic violations are also decreasing,” said a member of the Hyderabad traffic police. officials said.
ORR reduction
There has been a decrease in road accidents in Rachakonda and Cyberabad on the outer ring road section this year.
There were only 160 accidents on the ORR segment, compared to 231 reported last year. If you look at it from a Commissionerate point of view, there were 41 accidents in Rachakonda in 2021 and the same number for 2022.
However, the number of Cyberabads has dropped sharply, from 190 in 2021 to 119 in 2022.
Police maintain that a number of remedial measures have been taken against ORR, including traffic police patrols, providing tow trucks for the ORR police force, and ensuring that the road section has proper lighting, among other measures.
