Hyderabad: JK Tire racing prodigy Ruhaan Alva scored his first podium finish in the GB4 single-seater championship last weekend and finished second in round two of the series at England’s iconic Silverstone circuit.
The 16-year-old, who is part of the JK Tire Scholarship Scheme, which aims to give young Indian racers a platform to build a successful international career, finished less than a second behind champion Harry Reynolds , Tom Mills ranked third.
Alva, who rides for Fortec Motorsports, scored his podium finish in the third race of the weekend. He started from pole, but contact with Sid Smith robbed him of momentum, allowing Reynolds to smell the lead.
Alva defended hard with Reynolds, and the Elite Motorsport racer navigated the tricky corners of high-speed Maggots and Becketts round by round. But the young Indian eventually had to back down when Reynolds swept past Vale.
Alva had no chance of getting back into position as the safety car was deployed to clear Sid Smith’s car, which blew a tire on contact with Alva’s start line and became stuck in Copps. Thomas Lee also lost his Evans Grand Prix car at Abbey.
The safety car comes in only after the race’s time limit has run out. With no overtaking allowed, Reynolds could easily drive to the flag with Alva following. Alva said: “It’s really great to be here. Qualifying didn’t go as planned and I had to take P11. I was stuck in traffic and the rain and the resulting splashes wasted a lot of time. My season That first podium boosts my confidence a lot and we know that if we keep working hard, we will be able to achieve results like this consistently.”
The GB4 Championship is an entry-level single-seater championship designed to give young racers their first experience with skinhead and wing mechanics. Launched in September 2021, the series is now in its second season, using the Tatuus F4-T014 cars that also compete in the Italian, ADAC and Spanish F4 series.
