Moscow: Russia blamed Ukraine for a drone attack on Moscow on Tuesday morning that hit several buildings, local media reported.
“The Kiev regime launched a terrorist attack on targets in the city of Moscow using drones,” the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
The raid involved eight aircraft-type drones, all of which were hit; three drones suppressed by electronic warfare measures lost control and deviated from their intended target, the statement added, RT reported.
The remaining five drones were shot down by the Pantsir-S air defense system operating outside Moscow, according to the Ministry of Defense.
The city’s mayor, Sergey Sobyanin, who first reported the attack, said on Tuesday morning that the drone strike caused minor damage to several buildings in the Russian capital and that residents of the area Evacuate temporarily. He noted that no one was seriously injured and only two people sought medical attention, RT reported.
Moscow was hit by a drone attack by what appears to be a Ukrainian kamikaze this morning, hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin launched another round of airstrikes on Kiev, the Daily Mail reported.
Several buildings in wealthy Moscow suburbs were damaged, including Rublyovka, an elite district southwest of the capital.
According to the Daily Mail, a drone exploded into a mushroom cloud near the village of Usovo, which is on the road from Putin’s Novo-Ogaryovo residence.
“[Putin’s residence] Will be within earshot of the explosion,” said a local.
Explosive drones also hit apartment buildings on Leninsky Prospekt and Profsoyuznaya Streets, about six miles from central Moscow, reportedly injuring several residents and damaging buildings.
Ukraine did not immediately comment on the attack, which would be one of the deepest and most daring attacks on Russia since the Kremlin’s full-scale invasion of the country more than 15 months ago, the Daily Mail reported.
