Moscow: Russia on Thursday imposed travel restrictions on most British diplomats in the country, a practice reminiscent of the Soviet Union’s strict controls on the movement of foreigners.
The Foreign Office summoned the UK’s chargé d’affaires ad interim Tom Dodd to announce the policy, saying it was “in response to the hostilities in London, including impeding the normal functioning of Russian missions abroad in the UK”. The ministry also said it condemned Dodd for Britain’s support of “terrorist actions by the Kiev regime”. Britain is one of the countries most staunchly backing Ukraine’s fight against Russia.
Under the restrictions, most British diplomats will be required to give Russia five days’ notice of their intention to travel within a 120-kilometer (75-mile) radius, stating the purpose of travel, route, accommodation and planned contacts.
Ambassadors, consuls in Moscow and deputy heads of missions are not bound by the order.
