Nazia tagged IT and municipalities minister KT Rama Rao on Twitter for financial aid, minister responded by directing SATS chief to help fencers
Hyderabad: Telangana fencer Shaik Nazia from Nalgonda received much-needed financial aid of Rs 50,000 on Saturday when Telangana State Sports Authority (SATS) chairman A Venkateshwar Reddy and other officials presented her with cheques.
Nazia tagged IT and Municipalities Minister KT Rama Rao on Twitter for financial assistance, and the minister responded by directing SATS chiefs to help fencers. Nazia proved her mettle by winning two bronze medals at the recently concluded Cadet Commonwealth Championships and silver at the Cadet U-17 Asian Fencing Championships.
National Fencing Association President Marri Rajasekhar Reddy and MLA Korukanti Chander visited Nizia’s residence and gave her cheques and a tracksuit.
Nazia completed her intermediate course at Telangana Sports School in Hakimpet. “It is great that Nazia has won a medal in the international fencing competition. Her performance is impressive and the state government will support Nazia to excel in the sport,” said Venkateshwar Reddy .
He also praised her father, who served as a conductor at the RTC, for encouraging his daughter and son to play sports.
