Judge MR Shah was in tears as he sat on the bench for the last time on Monday and concluded his farewell speech

New Delhi: On Monday, Supreme Court Justice MR Shah, sitting on the bench for the last time in tears, mentioned a song from Raj Kapoor’s film “Mera Naam Joker” at the end of his farewell speech.
Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, who headed the bench comprising Justice Shah and Justice PS Narasimha, said, “It was a real pleasure to sit with Justice Shah. Ready for the challenge…”
Judge Shah said: “I am like a coconut… Please forgive me if I cry. Thank you all (Members of the Law Society) for your kind words and affection.”
“I’m not a retiree… I’m going to start a new inning and I’m praying (to God) that this inning is in good health,” Judge Shah said, reading a few lines from Raj Kapoora’s film “Mera Naam Joker.” Line, “Kal khel me hum ho na ho..gardish me taare rahenge sada…” with tears in my eyes.
Attorney General Tushar Mehta said he had met Judge Shah as both a lawyer and a judge, a very hard worker, “a very brave man who would not be Intimidated, this ability is gradually disappearing…”
Meta said: “However, your lord has caused serious injustice to their family. The number of judgments written by your lord is enough to prove that your family has suffered the most. Now it’s their turn to get compensation…”
Judge MR Shah was born on 16 May 1958. He was registered as a lawyer on 19th July 1982 and practiced before the Gujarat High Court in civil, criminal, constitutional, taxation, labour, services and corporate matters and specialized in land, constitutional, education, excise, customs matters.
He was appointed as an additional judge of the Gujarat High Court on March 7, 2004 and as a permanent judge on June 22, 2005. He was appointed Chief Justice of the Patna High Court on August 12, 2018. He was elevated to the rank of judge of the Supreme Court of India on 2 November 2018.
