Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) and the postal service are working to introduce an end-to-end package service for customers by combining rail transport with postal service pickup and delivery facilities.
To determine the way to roll out the unique service, a coordinating meeting was held on Monday between SCR general manager Arun Kumar Jain, chief postmaster Telangana Circle K Prakash and senior officials from the two other departments.
Parcel service aims to provide holistic services to customers utilizing the logistics of Indian Railways and Postal Sector. The integration of rail and postal services will help ensure door-to-door pickup and delivery of parceled goods.
The parcel service will enable customers sitting at home to book shipments to every corner of the country. Especially suitable for customers who wish to book relatively small quantities. Shipping by rail will ensure safe, fast and timely arrival of their products in an economical manner, officials said.
Arun Kumar Jain believes that the complex will help in the efficient use of parcel space available in express trains and parcel specials. This unique facility will also be able to tap into the back office of the Postal Service by offering booking and delivery services.
K Prakash said the combination of the two organizations could expand the customer base and provide better services to customers. He added that a special team will be formed by node officials from both parties in order to formulate the model and initiate marketing efforts to benefit customers.
