Sidi Pete: Reiterating Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s pledge on paddy procurement, Finance Minister T Harish Rao said the government will provide MSP for even rain-soaked paddy.
During a visit to Siddipet Cotton Yard, where the rice is purchased on Wednesday, several farmers complained that they were concerned about whether the government would buy the rain-soaked paddy. Ensuring all paddy is bought, the minister reassured them that the government would also pay Rs 10,000 in compensation for unharvested crops damaged by the unseasonable rains that hit the region. As the state experienced rains, hailstorms and high winds in April and May, Rao said the government is conducting a study to ensure paddy harvest in March by guiding farmers to perform Yasangi transplants a month earlier.
He said Agriculture Ministry officials will conduct awareness programs in Rythu Vedikas to guide rice farmers in this regard. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who has been there to support the farming fraternity, said the chief minister had instructed agriculture and marketing officials to procure rain-soaked paddy by providing MSP.
Other collectors Srinivas Reddy, Marketing Committee Chairman Macha Vijitha Venugopal Reddy, etc. attended.
