Sidi Pete: Finance Minister T Harish Rao, who inspected the works of the Manoharabad-Kothapally railway line on Tuesday, said that due to the rapid progress of the works, the train service will start from Siddipet next April.
Speaking at the work review meeting, Rao said officials aimed to complete the track to Duddeda by March and the track to Siddipet by April so the railways could operate the trains. Rao called the train link to Siddipet a decade-old dream and said the railway company has completed the first phase of the 44km stretch from Manoharabad to Gajwel. Although Gajwel has already started train services, the second phase of work from Gajwel to Siddipet is progressing smoothly. The railway tracks will be extended to Sircilla in Phase 3 and to Karimnagar via Vemulawada in Phase 4.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who is determined to provide train services to Sddipet, said the project was approved when Chandrashekhar Rao was labor union minister in 2005. The Telangana government has so far spent Rs 500 crore on the railway line as the state has to bear the cost of land acquisition and a third of the project cost, said Harish Rao.
Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil, Deputy Chief Engineer (Railway) Santosh Kumar, Assistant Executive Engineer Somaraju, Additional Collector Srinivas Reddy, etc. were present.
