karimnagar: The management of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has come up with an innovative idea to install Rapid Gravity Filters (RGF) to filter and supply pure water to its factory, the water problem of Singareni workers will be solved.
To this end, the board meeting gave a green signal to launch the project at Rs 20 crore. Currently, the project is undergoing a work order and tender process.
About 20,000 Singareni workers live in the residential area of Godavarikhani, the 8 incline colony and century-old colony in the Ramagundam area.
To meet the water needs of its factories, SCCL management draws water from a well located on the Godavari river on the outskirts of Godavarikhani. After being washed through the filter bed, the water is supplied to the residential area. It has continued for the past forty years.
Each day, 8 million gallons of water are drawn from the intake wells and supply 4.5 mgd (million gallons per day) of water to RG-I regions and 3.5 MGD to RG-II and III regions.
The water in Godavari is often polluted as wastewater from the Ramagundam Municipal Corporation and other industries is polluting it. Locals are often hospitalized after drinking the contaminated water. The rainy season will be even worse.
The color of the water has changed because the backwater from the Sundilla barrage constructed as part of the Kaleshwaram project is stored year-round in the Godavari River, where SCCL draws water from an intake well.
To overcome this problem, Singareni management decided to build fast gravity filters. The project is in the bidding process. SCCL sources said Singareni management was determined to get the job done within nine months.
