Forest officials managed to capture a sloth bear that had wandered into the Srinivasa Colonial settlement and transferred it to a forest area
it disappeared: After a six-hour rescue operation, forest officials successfully captured a sloth bear that had wandered into the Srinivasa Colonial settlement and transferred it to a forest area for release.
The sloth bear was first spotted Sunday morning in the bathroom of Thandu Srinivas’ home in Srinivasa Colony.
Hearing the screams of Srinivas’ family, the bear became terrified and ran into another building under construction in the colony behind the local D-Mart store.
After local residents called the police, police and forest officials rushed to the settlement and took steps to capture the sloth bear and prevent it from running past the settlement again.
A forest department rescue team also arrived in Suryapet from Warangal to rescue the bear at the request of district officials.
Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy, who is in the area, also reached Srinivasa Colony and directed officials to rescue the bear without harming it.
Efforts to calm the bear were unsuccessful, delaying rescue operations, according to forest officials. The bear was finally caught with a special net.
According to reports, the bear was recently spotted in Tirumalgiri and Arvepally in the area, from where it is believed to have wandered to Srinivasa Colony. It will be released into a nearby forest, officials said.
