Temperatures have been dropping in and around Munnar, a popular hill station in the Idukki district at an altitude of about 1,600 metres.
“It is snowing in areas like Pampadamshola, Vattavada and tourists are flocking to Munnar. Since January, the temperature in some areas here has dropped to zero degrees. Earlier, the coldest month used to be December month, but not now,” said a local.
It is worth noting that Munnar has unique greenery, especially neelakurinji (flowers only once in twelve years), in addition to Nilgiri tar, grizzly giant squirrel, Nilgiri wood pigeon, elephant, bison Endemic species such as , Nilgiri langur and sambar.
Domestic tourists, especially those from Kochi, which has a large skilled workforce, are heading to Munnar because of the snow-capped meadows in areas like Vattavada and nearby areas.
In addition, with the airports of Kochi, Coimbatore and Madurai all within a range of 110km to 165km, resort owners can expect brisk business.
