Hyderabad: It appears that fact-checking before bringing charges to the Telangana state government is an unfamiliar practice for the BJP leadership.
Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind proved to be no exception and facts refuted his allegations that Telangana was not focusing on solar projects offered on the website of the Joint Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
Data suggests that Telangana is doing much better, or on par with most BJP-ruled countries, in terms of solar power generation. According to MNRE data, Telangana ranks fourth in solar power generation and fifth in renewable energy. In fact, Telangana ranks second in the country in terms of solar power generation capacity per unit of land area.
Arvind recently told a press conference that while the entire country is pushing for solar projects to meet their electricity needs, “the Telangana government is not paying attention to it”.
“The chief minister of Telangana should take a cue from Gujarat, which is rolling out solar on a massive scale,” he said, apparently ignoring or not knowing that Telangana is only behind Karnataka and Gujarat in terms of solar power. As of September 2022, Telangana has a solar power generation capacity of 5076.1 MW. The state’s total renewable energy capacity is 15,914 MW.

Telangana is targeting a total installed solar capacity of 6,246 MW by the end of 2022-23, according to officials of the Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO). BJP-ruled states such as Uttar Pradesh have a cumulative installed capacity of 2.3 GW, Madhya Pradesh has 2.7 GW, and Maharashtra has an operational capacity of 2.6 GW, much lower than Telangana.
According to MNRE, Telangana has the potential to develop 20.41 GW of solar energy. Even Union State Minister for New and Renewable Energy Bhagwanth Khuba applauded Telangana’s efforts in the field of renewable energy and said that Telangana is fast-tracking the country’s Jawaharlal Nehru national solar mission setting The goal of this mission is to maximize solar power generation.
According to Invest India, the state investment promotion and promotion agency, Telangana accounts for 10.5% of India’s solar capacity, while its land occupies only 3.5% of the country.
All these statistics prove that the statements of the BJP and its leaders (such as Arvind) always need to be taken with a grain of salt, as the tendency to distort facts for political mileage is increasingly characteristic of saffron parties.
