Bhubaneswar: Indian Athletics head coach Radhakrish Nannel confirmed on Wednesday that sprint star Shimadas will miss the upcoming Asian Games in China due to a hamstring injury last April.
Seema, 23, won the 400m individual silver medal at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games. She was also part of a gold and silver medal winning women’s 4x400m and mixed 4x400m relay quartet in Jakarta.
“Unfortunately, she (Hima) got injured the day before the fourth Indian Grand Prix in Bangalore (April 15). She strained her hamstring and had back problems. Now, medical investigations are underway and plans are underway. Treatment. I believe as per AFI policy she will not be able to compete in the Asian Games,” Nair said.
