Hyderabad: Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batting lineup failed again as they suffered their fifth defeat in chasing a goal below 144. The home side eventually won by seven points behind 137/6.
Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Brian Lara was disappointed with the performance of the batsmen, arguing they should have been easy chasing targets. “There’s no devil on the pitch, we could have been more aggressive throughout the inning. We left everything too late. I’d prefer if my hitters were more aggressive and took advantage in Powerplay. We allowed them Take wickets in the middle and cramp,” he said after the defeat.
The Sunrisers never looked the way they started, scoring just 36 runs in power play. “Yes, we should have been in a better position in the first 15 games. I will not be disappointed as a coach no matter what the situation is. My players will not fail. Their first priority is to cross the line. Yes Yes, the bowlers did a good job of limiting Derry to under par on this wicket. We deserved the win,” he said.
After the previous bout, Laura revealed that the combination of Harry Brook and Abhishek Sharma will be given a long rope for the opening act. But on Monday, Mayank Agarwal returned to his usual haunts to set up shop. Speaking about this, he said, “He (Mayank) has years of experience in the IPL and we feel we need someone to put the innings together and also need a left-hander like Abhishek Sharma, who was in 5th and he hit A gap was in Kolkata the other night,” he said.
Meanwhile, Capitals’ Chinese bowler Kuldeep Yadav said they were always confident they could defend the aggregate. “We are 100% confident that as a team and as a bowling team we have done really well throughout the game and this is our chance to show. I think we played really well in the strong game and lost 35-36 . After that me and Axar, we just kept ourselves in the game in the middle stages, Nortje and Mukesh played very well in the last four rounds,” he said.
Commenting on Mukesh Kumar’s final match, in which he conceded just five runs in a 13-run defense, he said, “He also played well in his last match. He is playing his first IPL and he Improving every day. Bowling in a death bout is never easy.”
He further added that they need to improve their batting rate to achieve satisfactory results. “Well, when we meet the Sunrisers again in Derry a few days later, we’ll want to keep the momentum going with a two-in-two win. We’ve lost our first five games and we’ve done a good job bowling and defending and we’ve Needs to improve in terms of batting and we will probably do that in the next games,” Kuldeep concluded.
