Apple’s biggest annual event, the Worldwide Developers Conference, kicked off on Monday, and it’s already making waves with some big announcements.
Dubbed “revolutionary” by Apple CEO Tim Cook, the long-awaited Vision Pro headset has finally unveiled, giving tech enthusiasts a sneak peek at its capabilities.
The headset is a hybrid of virtual and augmented reality, with eye-hand tracking, a pocket-sized battery, and is powered by the VisionOS operating system. It looks a lot like ski goggles but is much lighter than other products on the market. The price is as high as $3,499, and it is expected to be released to users in early 2024.
Another major Apple product unveiled at the conference was the 15.3-inch Macbook Air. Early Macbooks only had 13-inch screens.
The MacBook Air also boasts impressive features such as up to 18 hours of battery life and a high-quality 1080p webcam. Priced at $1,299, it’s readily available in the market. It also dropped exciting details related to iOS 17. Two new features in this update are Journal, an app to help practice gratitude, and StandBy, a way to view messages while your phone is charging.
Apple also said that the newest Mac Pro devices will now feature the new M2 Ultra chip.
Multiple YouTube accounts were hacked:
The YouTube accounts of several prominent figures in India were hacked on Sunday as part of a rampant Tesla scam. Users said the hack could have been avoided if YouTube officials had noticed the repeated requests to freeze accounts. Journalist Barkha Dutt’s news channel, Mojo Story, was hit the hardest as all videos were wiped clean and the account was renamed “Tesla.”
Comedian Tanmay Bhat also tweeted about his account being hacked, claiming that the hackers bypassed the two-factor authentication he had set up for his account. Others, including stand-up comedian Aishwarya Mohanraj and YouTuber Abdu Rozik, also reported their accounts were hacked.
Hackers targeted selected accounts, deleted the videos and renamed the accounts to look like the official accounts of the car company Tesla. This is an infamous trend set by hackers over the past few years.
Google extends Passkey to Workspace accounts
In early May, Google rolled out Passkey support as an alternative login option for all personal accounts. Now, the same functionality is being extended to Workspace accounts. Keys help users use passwordless login methods. People can simply choose to set up a PIN, fingerprint or facial recognition to unlock the app. Google claims this will minimize the impact of phishing.
Microsoft’s voice assistant Cortana will be discontinued
Microsoft will reportedly shut down Cortana, its Windows voice assistant, soon. The move comes after the tech giant made some big changes, such as integrating ChatGPT on Bing Chat. Its latest tool, Windows Copilot, will be available on the taskbar and is said to be able to do everything Cortana can, so it decided to kill the app.
