Hyderabad: Donald Trump Arrested! Pope Francis spotted in stylish down jacket! Elon Musk Is Dating GM CEO Mary Barra!
The above statement is sure to make headlines for viral posts and clickbait. While you might momentarily speculate about the veracity of the news, when presented with an image that looks as real as a star, you won’t hesitate to take the bait and believe them. Like many social media users who believe the above example.
So here’s what actually happened. An artificial intelligence tool called Midjourney is currently gaining popularity on social media platforms. This tool will help you create deepfake images of people in any of the above scenarios. You just enter the prompt.
Unsurprisingly, many people started experimenting and creating outrageous images. Looking at them you think it’s fake, but they look so real you simply can’t ignore them.
Images of Trump’s arrest flooded Twitter just days after he claimed he would be arrested soon. And the CEO of the microblogging site was himself a victim of these seemingly real fake images.
While the creators who posted these images made it clear that they were fake and were just a joke, it should be noted that the wrong tools can be disastrous and lead to the spread of fake news, which has already started to happen.
Only verified accounts can vote in Twitter polls
Days after removing the two-factor authentication method for non-Twitter Blue users, Chief Executive Elon Musk said on Monday that only verified Twitter users will be eligible to vote in polls that begin April 15.
“This is the only realistic way to solve the problem of advanced AI bot swarm takeover. Otherwise, it will be a hopeless losing battle. For the same reason, votes will need to be verified,” he tweeted.
Additionally, under the revised policy, posts from non-paying accounts will not be included in the “For You” stream of Recommended Tweets, and the verification status of some “legacy” accounts will be removed.
Apple’s interactive goggles in the soup?
Apple headsets powered by virtual and augmented reality, the company’s long-awaited product, seem to be in a bit of a state of affairs. According to a recent New York Times article, Apple employees have misgivings about the product.
The report suggests that there are concerns that the device’s $3,000 price tag is a bit steep for what it offers. Beyond that, there are concerns about its practicality.
Levi’s uses AI models
Fashion and technology have probably never been used in the same sentence. But times have changed, and leading apparel brands are now hiring AI models to put on clothes.
Levi’s recently announced a partnership with Lalaland.ai, a digital fashion studio that builds custom AI-generated models. While the company says this will never replace their human models, they want to have diverse AI models.
The world’s first 3D printed rocket
California-based aerospace startup Relativity Space launched the world’s first 3D printed rocket, the Terran 1 booster, last Wednesday from the Cape Canaveral Space Station in Florida.
Although the rocket failed to reach orbit and crashed in the Atlantic Ocean, the mission was still considered a success, as it served only to demonstrate that it was possible to launch a rocket made entirely of 3D printing.
