We all know how Musk launched Twitter Blue, a subscription service that gives users special features and perks. What he’s also doing at the same time is a traditional blue tick that pushes users to quickly subscribe if they want to keep their verification status intact.
However, not everyone is obligated. Some paid, some didn’t. Those who didn’t subscribe were stripped of their blue tick badges on Friday. Now, over the years, the blue tick has become a way for people to think that the account is verified and authentic. With this new Twitter Blue system, anyone can pay and earn a verified blue badge.
But wait, that’s not the case. In an unexpected twist; most celebrities, politicians and others mysteriously recovered their blue ticks on Sunday. While it was widely assumed that those with over a million followers would be given back their verification badges, there was something wrong with the whole thing.
When you click on the blue tick badge for these accounts, you’ll see the following text. “This account has been verified because they subscribed to Twitter Blue and verified their phone number.”
However, many users including Omar Abdullah, Nidhi Razdan, MIT, etc. have publicly claimed that they did not pay for the blue tick for Twitter. In fact, Twitter has also put a blue checkmark on the accounts of Sushant Singh Rajput, Sidharth Shukla, Michael Jackson, and many other deceased celebrities, saying that they have verified and subscribed to Twitter.
Many influential users of the platform have accused Twitter of lying about paying them for blue ticks and demanded that the platform be honest about when, why and how they awarded their verification badges.
China to test 3D printing on the moon
