Hyderabad: The Krishna River Management Committee will meet on May 10. Telangana’s demand for a fair share of the guaranteed waters of the Krishna River will be discussed at the meeting along with 21 other items on the agenda.
Despite serious objections to the current 66:34 split between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the issue has so far not been resolved. Last year, the board also continued with the provisional split of 66:34 between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The state’s irrigation department is insisting on a review of water sharing to address the unfair trade being practiced.
As the new water year begins on June 1, the KRMB sought the opinions of the two littoral states. The meeting will also discuss Andhra Pradesh’s objections to the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy pumping irrigation project and Telangana’s overuse of 45.66 TMC in the small-scale irrigation sector.
The meeting will consider the issue of low production at Telangana due to the unsound structure of the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS). The state government’s request for KRMB to take steps to stop works on the Veligonda project and AP’s illegal withdrawal of water from the Srisailam Dam for irrigation needs outside the watershed will also be discussed at the meeting.
