Hyderabad: The state’s public libraries will no longer be limited to accessing different books, newspapers and competitive test prep materials. They will now deliver digital, technology and skills development training, including coding and entrepreneurial skills. This will be done through digital centers of excellence to be established in public libraries across the state.
These centers will deliver science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) curriculum training to students ages 8 and up to 18. Those interested can also sign up for basic coding courses and app development training offered by the center.
Apart from STEM training, the centers also deliver skills development programs to those aged 18 and under 30 through the Telangana Academy of Skills and Knowledge (TASK). Digital education is also provided, including basic computer training, MS Office and digital marketing.
Create an entrepreneurial skills development program specifically designed for women. To implement the programme, an agreement was signed between the Department of Public Libraries, Telangana Academy of Skills and Knowledge (TASK) and WeHub.
One Digital Center of Excellence has already been set up as a pilot in public libraries in Kamareddy, Vikarabad and Mahabubnagar districts each, with another 20 such centers to be launched in Ranga Reddy, Siddipet, Mahbubad, Devarakonda and Bellampally this June. Next year, the department intends to establish one such center in all 33 districts.
According to officials, the decision aims to further increase access to public libraries by providing youth with skills development programs while empowering women through entrepreneurship training. Currently, public libraries only see frantic panic buying when the state government issues recruitment notices.
“Using modern technology and facilitating skills development, digital centers of excellence are being established in the state. Three centers have been established and we are currently in the process of establishing another five. These initiatives are proving to be successful,” said Dr Ayachitam Sreedhar, Chairman, Telangana Grandhalaya Parishad , and achieved its purpose effectively. “
The centers will also facilitate the provision of online services such as application for Aadhaar, Pan, Voter ID and Driving License etc.
