Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan vetoed Telangana Public Employment (Retirement Age Regulations) (Amendment) Bill

Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has rejected one of her three pending bills amid ongoing disagreements with the state government. She vetoed the Telangana Public Employment (Retirement Age Regulations) (Amendment) Bill. The state legislature passed the bill to include directors of medical education and additional directors of medical education in the retirement age range for professors, associate professors and assistant professors at government medical schools and raise the retirement age from 61 to 65.
The development came before the Supreme Court resumed hearing a state petition seeking to direct the governor to make a decision on her pending bill. The Supreme Court recently heard that Telangana Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) (Amendment), Telangana Municipal Law (Amendment) Bill and Telangana Public Employment (Regulation of Pension Age) ( Amendment) Bill is under active consideration by the Governor.
It was also told that the Governor had agreed to three bills. They are – Telangana State Motor Vehicle Taxation (Amendment) Bill, Telangana Municipality (Amendment) and Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University Professor (Amendment) Bill. She referred the Telangana Forestry University Bill and the Telangana University Joint Recruitment Commission Bill to the President for her consideration and assent.
The Supreme Court has heard that the governor has sought certain clarifications from the state government on the Telangana Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill. It was also informed that the Ministry of Law has not yet referred the Azamabad Industrial Zone (Termination and Regulation of Leases) (Amendment) Bill to the Governor for consideration. The Supreme Court is hearing a state petition to direct the governor to make a decision on her pending bill.
